Having Problems or Issues with XML Demo Content Upload? Try This Solution

Hi Ed,
I have looked at WooCommerce Settings several times. However, the Shop – with left sidebar option does not appear in the drop down menu. I also do not have the Shop – with left sidebar as a page? I seem to have all the other pages installed with the demo content, but the Shop – with left sidebar, and shop – with right sidebar don’t appear in my pages, or in the drop down in WooCommerce.

I can see that a sidebar shows on the shop page, if I select the sidebar option, and then select WooCommerce sidebar on the shop page.

Is there a way you can tell me how to get the shop – with left sidebar page to appear with sidebar and products, and maybe a step by step for the WooCommerce settings. I feel like I have tried everything I know to try, but cannot get it to show like the demo. This “Shop – wiht left sidebar” page is the last page set up I need to have working before I can throw myself in to rebuilding the site with the clients’ info.

Hi Ed,
I tried something else. I went to one (of 2) shop pages that i have in my pages, it’s on page 4 of 5, and clicked edit. (I don’t have the page options of Shop – sidebar left, or sidebar right – it’s as if those didn’t load with the demo content). Here, I chose the sidebar option, and chose WooCommerce Sidebar. Then, when I preview this page, it looks close to the demo content – screencap attached.

However, when I click the Shop option in the navigation, and select “shop” or “Shop – with left sidebar” all I get is a blank “Shop” page, screencap also attached.

I’m not sure the XML demo installed correct or not, i used almost 45mins to completed it and finally message “IMPORT FAILED. Can anyone tell me it normal or not ? Becase i can browering most of XML content data, but when i pressed down MAINMENU > SHOP > SHOP-with left sidebar sub item (IT DIDN’T SHOW THE LEFT SIDERBAR) && with right sidebar sub item (brower show ***Not Found*** The requested URL /shop/ was not found on this server.) Anyone can give some suggest ?

Hi,

Probably it’s the permalinks settings.

Please go to Settings-> Permalinks
Choose the option “Post Name” and hit the button “Save Changes”

If the option “Post name” is already select you must also hit the button “Save Changes”

Also don’t know if you installed Woocommerce pages.
Try first to save again the permalinks and let us know if was that the problem.

Dear Rui,

It already set to “Post Name” and Saved, i tried twice but still no lucky. I guess it not import all data correct, otherwise the theme won’t run like that and some css also can’t show on the screen as the demo.

Can you make a bundle kit, collect all plugins with the THEME, let user install it then will same as the demo?

Hi

Importing the demo content will not get the exact same site as the demo, you will need to adjust settings, things like WooCommerce settings and widgets etc. The demo content is just for all of the pages and posts to be imported.

If you need a left sidebar you need to go to Theme Options > WooCommerce options and set the sidebar, same for archive/category pages

Hi there,

I am having the same problems with uploading the demo content and would need your assistance in this matter. Tried to compress the xml as explained to .gz, checked all my php settings which are correct, I changed already the host to have an own server and no shared, and I tried all the recommended steps – from uploading the full version to alt version, even the splitted xml files. Nothing works and I am on it since hours. Always get immediately the message ‘failed import’ – please provide me support asap to get the demo content run. I need to launch the site very soon and I have so much struggle with it. Thanks in advance – Ina

Hi @gunnerson,

Can you provide the full message? Does it load for a while or instantly show that? Have you tried the alternate XML?

If you get a loading indicator for a while, and then the fail, try hitting the back button on your browser and then continuing the process, repeat until it completes.

thanks for replying so fast.
I get immediately failed to import messages, whatever I am trying, .gz, alt or splitted. All my php settings are as recommended. When I try to hit the back button of my browser it tells me the file could not be found. I am really running out of time here and feel quite desperate. Especially since I changed the host to a managed/dedicated server which costs me whole lots more money and we had to moved the domain etc. which costed time. The most hilarious thing is that I had zero problems importing the demo content with the previous host ( even it was a shared server and no settings were adjusted ). I simply changed the provider due to your recommendations and because I couldn’t get the slider run. Now I am struggling even with setting up the basics. I really need some assistance here and appreciate a fast support. Thanks in advance. Ina
