ExFM music discovery service announces goodbye The company indicates that the closure is due to high maintenance costs. After four years of operation, ExFM is gone. The service, which allowed discovering new music through the internet and playing it from the same browser, will say goodbye for good next January, according to the company's own official announcement. Among the reasons cited for the closure is the very high cost of keeping such a service running. "Four years ago, the music scene was very different," they explain on the firm's official blog. "Spotify and Rdio did not exist in America, there was no Google Music or iTunes Radio, Soundcloud and Bandcamp were just getting started", unlike today where "music flows from many parts of the web." For the same reason, for a relatively small company it is simply not possible to continue operating as before. From next January 15, both the official site and the different applications for Android or iOS will stop working. What will continue to be present is an extension for Chrome that works independently of the service and that will allow you to "link" songs from Last.fm to Soundcloud, or from any blog to Rdio or Spotify; basically, it will be “the glue that holds all the services together”. The founders of the company think that in the future it is possible that ExFM will return in the form of tokens , although for now those who used the service will have to start saying goodbye to it (and incidentally, export and save their data). As always happens in these cases, there will be many who did not know it and who since the publication of this post have just over three weeks to try it before their final goodbye.
