Why does the post widget in the bottom get boxed in? How to get rid of it?

That’s the theme’s design 🙂

If you want to get rid of those borders, add the following in the Custom CSS box from the General theme options:

#footer .widget ul li, #footer .widget_categories ul, #footer .widget_archive ul, #footer .widget_nav_menu ul, #footer .widget_recent_comments ul, #footer .widget_meta ul, #footer .widget_recent_entries ul, #footer .widget_product_categories ul {
    border-color: transparent !important;
}
