Can thumbnails in WP Galleries be cropped automatically?

Hello,

Is there any way to automatically crop the thumbnail images displayed when a WP gallery is created. Ideally I’d like a native solution that doesn’t require a plugin.

Hi there,

Try using the shortcode with the size attribute, like so:

[gallery link="file" ids="11493,11496,11490,11485,11455,11500" size="thumb-image"]
[gallery link="file" ids="11493,11496,11490,11485,11455,11500" size="thumb-square"]

That should crop it for you!

Is it possible to set size=”thumb-square” and link to media file as default so I don’t need to set it manually every time?

It works with the shortcode, my question is can these settings be applies as default when I make a gallery, i.e. always cropping the images, and always linking to the media file, at the moment I have to set them manually on every post.

I’m not sure, it’s not something that can be controlled by them theme. You may need a plugin for this functionality
