    Is there a global setting to turn off having the featured image on single post types? If not, what is the method to do this? Thanks!

    Do you want them turned off for existing posts, or all posts? Would be easy to hide the image with some custom css:

    article.type-post figure.media-wrap {
display: none;
}

    Will that still call the image to the page? Should I take this out of the post template file all together as a better solution or would this take care of it? If I should take it out of the post template file, can you point me to where it is?

    It will still call it on the page. The file is single.php
