I used the CSS. It’s hard to tell with the new 1.52 Update and the stretched out Portfolio but the white spaces are still there.
I tried both standard and multi size masonry. The effect is the same with both. The screen shot is from the multi size style.

One last question. Where do I change the color of the border of items? Right now it’s white. I could not find the setting in the color manager.

I know that is what should happen. But it works only for non-portfolio hover effects. Team pictures for example work fine but the portfolio does not blur.
Related to the post from fabrikgrafik: If “Bold” is chosen as style the hover overlay is overlapping with other items.

yes the white left and right is now gone, but the small white space (visible before 1.5) is back.
