    Solved!

    I didn’t upgrade the theme properly before! I have uploaded a fresh copy of the theme and now it’s working.

    Updated to 2.61 but still the same problem. I have changed the theme to Twenty Fourteen and the gallery edit buttons appear again so I guess it can be a problem with the Swift editor.
    I have also added again the remove_filter line in functions.php

    we have this same issue, tried with the code above but it doesn’t seem to work. Any other idea?
