Fixed it, seemed like the text itself was interfering with footer widget (basically coding error)

I had in footer options Single Column layout.
In Widgets under the Footer Column 1 a text with link.

Whenever I enabled it, the whole footer would vanish.
After disabling and now trying it again, the footer itself is there but nothing would show up on Footer Widget.
