    I see that there is an 1.62 update. I’m not willing to provide credentials to my server to an external entity. I went back to ThemeForest, but the download from there is still 1.6

    You can update to 1.62 through WP admin

    Hmmm, that wasn’t really a fix for me.

    However, I did dig around a little and my problem was related to this. http://www.chrisabernethy.com/why-wordpress-asks-connection-info/

    After changing my permissions, I was able to update without providing credential data. My problem is resolved now.
