Hello! I was wondering if there is a plan to integrate Cardinal’s page builder’s built-in shortcodes with Visual Composer? I.e. Portfolios, etc …
Thanks!
July 22, 2014 at 10:06 am #93594Hi
Not sure what you mean? You can use the page builder on portfolio pages and the other post types
If you are asking if you can use visual composer as well, the answer is no. We believe that our page builder is much more powerful than visual composer, we have used it in the past and was not too impressed so decided to build our own, which we are much happier with

You provide the visual composer plugin with cardinal on the premium plugins topic.
I downloaded it and installed it in cardinal but indeed it can’t be used with your page builder. It’either one or the other I guess and I agree that your swift page builder is better.
Now I also have the intense site builder (supposed to work with VC) and some shortcodes work with your page builders while some others do not.
It is a great plugin and has very nice shortcodes too but there are some conflicts. Could you have a look at it?

Since some of the shortcodes are working it might be not that hard to make it fully compatible.
BTW, how comes and there is no mention of VC offered with Cardinal?

Thanks for letting us know, will see what we can do. I’m not sure, I was unaware that we included Visual Composer, I will forward this topic to the developer

Yes, it wouldn’t be possible to use both on the same page, due to the way they work in cleaning the page of non-builder shortcodes. What isn’t working with it? Unfortunately we can’t support plugins that add functionality to one of the included plugins – if there is a conflict, it’s unlikely to be because of anything we’ve done incorrectly.
There should be a mention on the item page on ThemeForest, however we obviously prefer users to use our own builder as it’s fully built into Cardinal – so obviously users will get a better experience from it.

July 25, 2014 at 6:45 pm #94818Hi ED,
Yes I thought so and the only thing making Visual Composer interesting compared to Swift Page Builder is the vast array of addons and shortcodes that come with them. However, I find your page builder much better in every way.
Now regarding the Intense Site Builder this is a collection of many shortcodes that have amazing depth and caustomization options before inserted. This is not an exclusive to visual composer but can integrated with it. Other than that it provides a shortcode generator in any text editor in wordpress including the one within any element that includes text input in your builder. So it is not a VC addon actually and is sold as a standalone product as well.
With that said I managed to make it work through a not so convenient sequence of moves.
You can insert any of its shortcodes to the text editor of the elements but you have to do the following first..1) Add a text block (where the shortcode wil be placed)
2) Press update page so the text block is entered to the database
3) Edit the text block and enter the shortcode, then save it and update again.Unless you first do 2), if you try to insert any of the shortcodes in the text block and then try to save (to close) then the pop up window and whole editor freeze and have to do a full page reload. Once the page is reloaded the shortcode is not in the text block anymore.
Nonetheless, I thought of letting you know in case this rings a bell to you and can fix it.
Some other plugins I have like FSQM Pro (Form & quiz builder for complex forms) that also generate shortcodes do not present this behavior.
I am testing Cardinal extensively before I decide whether to move my site (not live yet) from Dante to it and will send you my feedback soon.

July 26, 2014 at 1:59 am #94841Hi @Sotiris,
That sounds like a JS issue, where something throws an error and thus does not allow you to continue using the page builder until a refresh. I would assume this is a plugin issue seeing as other plugins aren’t showing the same issue.
Keeping an eye on your other topic 🙂

July 26, 2014 at 6:41 pm #94895I will have to see if this error carries over to the live site since this localhost installation of wordpress has evolved to an endless “beta testing” testing parade with plugins coming on and off. As I said, I managed to “make it work” even through a workaround.
We’ll continue to the other topic.
July 26, 2014 at 8:34 pm #94903Ok sure 🙂

August 4, 2014 at 6:36 pm #97630Hey @Sotiris,
I was wondering if the Intense Site Builder plugin works on the Dante theme. I’ve taken a look at it based on your recommendation in this thread and am deeply impressed by the depth and breadth of its functionality. While the Cardinal theme offers many shortcodes, it simply doesn’t have the full compliment that the Intense Site Builder does.
Also, have you found any way other than text box>save & update>ISB shortcode input>save & update to make the ISB plugin work?
Thanks!
Ozzie
August 6, 2014 at 12:47 pm #98396Hi
Looks like @Sotiris isn’t going to get back, however I will leave this open just incase they do. However the intense site builder will not work any better with Dante than it does with Cardinal

August 6, 2014 at 7:35 pm #98589Oops I just noticed the question!
Hey @ ShteebleGuy
The answer no, I have not found another way but at least it works this way. The truth is that Ed pointed out that it sounds like a javascript error and I have yet to reach the developer of the plugin and let him know.
I just tested on a bare localhost Dante installation right now and while it works it is not any better. In fact I could say it is worse but I still managed to make it work. The problem is that the intense shortcode generator causes a conflict when attempting to insert their shortcodes within a page builder element. For Dante what I did is generate any shortcode you need in the classic wordpress editor (even in another page used for that) and then copy-paste the shortcode(s) to the Swift Page Builder Element directly. It worked straight away like that for me but no editing after that. Try the text view within the text block editor sometimes as well.
As I said it works but it is less than ideal and I think is more optimized for Visual Composer (comes with cardinal as well) which I certainly do not like even though I have 3 more plugins that integrate with it. I also bought Live Composer (front end editing) which I also don’t use so this type of page editing is certainly not for me.
And a friendly suggestion: If you have not launched your site yet, move to Cardinal, you won’t regret it! I did and will use my Dante license for another simpler page.

August 6, 2014 at 8:13 pm #98618ATTENTION!!!!
Do not use this plugin unless we talk to its author. Earlier today I updated my Cardinal theme on my main site to the latest version and after the update was completed the site went down and could not see neither the front end nor the dashboard.
I’ve been talking with Ed for hours to find the cause of the trouble that rendered the site inaccessible. Just 10 minutes ago I decided to test the same update on my localhost installation and bang the same thing happened. I did it because Ed suggested that some
security settings on my hosting provider could be causing it.To cut a short story long I decided to start deleting plugins straight from the root of my localhost installation to see if any plugin could be causing it. And guess what!
The moment I deleted the “intense” plugin folder (Intense Builder) the local site worked again. I restored all the other plugins from the recyle bin and no issues at all. I updated to WordPress 3.9.2 after, again no issues at all.
There is something wrong with this plugin and will talk to its developer to check it out.
Till we have an answer or update I would avoid using it with Dante or Cardinal or use with caution and backup everything before any update.

Thanks so much for your detailed feedback and your warning!!
I wish you luck with getting your site back up and running, as well as in working with the developer of the Intense plugin to try and have it play nice with SwiftIdeas products.
Look forward to hearing what happens…
