Using the page builder, I have added a youtube video via the video shortcode, and have set “full width” to NO, and have defined the video width and height as 200×100. These parameters do not make any difference, as the video always displays as full width. I have seen a few other people post in the forums about the same issue, but never seen you guys post any real solution other than telling people to add additional columns. I could also create a custom div with a defined max width, or simply use the youtube iframe embed to fix this issue, but the real problem is that your shortcode for videos simply doesn’t work like it should. Using this shortcode is pointless if it doesn’t work and defaults to max width no matter what settings you choose.

I hope you guys fix this is in the next update, as it’s a fairly frustrating problem that should have been resolved already.

    Hi,

Can you provide us a link to that specific page where you have the video? To see if we find any issue with it.

    Thanks

    Hi

The video asset will always display the video at the width of the asset, for e.g. 2/3, 1/2 etc. The size parameters are only for the video quality. You can either reduce the asset width, or embed the video using an iframe

So basically the video shortcode is useless? I don’t understand the purpose of the shortcode if it doesn’t work as it should. I also don’t understand why anyone would want to decrease video quality on a video that is being forced to be full width. Please explain how and why I would use this shortcode in a project. Thanks.

Let me double check this with the developer, this has been brought up in the past an I believe that was the answer he gave, but I will check, as it does make sense to be able to change the video size

Thanks Kyle, much appreciated. It just doesn’t make sense to me, and it doesn’t appear to work like one would initially think it should.

    Hi @marketfire

I can’t seem to get past the coming soon page?

Ok, so the video size in the asset isn’t to do with quality – that is used to know the ratio of the video. The reason that the video isn’t output at that size is for responsive purposes. We need to set the video to be 100% width of the container, so that it is responsive across all viewports. Having the video set at a width that is not in correlation to our CSS grid would cause issues, and wouldn’t function well in our eyes – that is why we inform users to resize the video asset in order to reduce the width of the video. That way, from a development point of view, we can be sure that the video will be displayed correctly.

I’m keen to see what you are trying to achieve on your page so that I can see if we can provide a method of setting this in the page builder.

Also, just another quick thought….Is it not possible to make this shortcode allow for setting a “max width” and “max height” parameters? This way a user could set the desired size of the video, but it would still be responsive if the screen size was reduced below those parameters?

    Hi @marketfire

I can’t seem to get past your splash page, the link you sent just redirects me?

I like the idea of a max width – not sure how possible it will be to work with (iframes aren’t the easiest to resize), but will see what I can do.

Did you try visiting the link again??

You have to visit the link to set an access cookie that will give you access for 6 hours.

Simply visit the url and then you will have access, so when it redirects you back to the splash page, just visit the access url one more time and you’ll be in.

Ahh apologies – didn’t see that I’d have to hit the link twice.

Can’t seem to login to view the video – and getting maintenance mode now?
