I have my woocommerce immages set to 720 x 720 and created square images with that size.
The image which I set by default to a product behaves just fine but somehow when I link each variation to its own image, the show up disproportional.
    Any idea why?

    Hi,

It looks that the images from the variations are 540 px wide.
Can you check the size of the pictures you used in this product?

I prepared all the images to be 720px x 720px and configured that in the woocommmerce settings’ area for products’ images.

Rui… I’m sorry. That reply was supposed to be on a different post which is now solved.
I haven’t figured out what’s wrong with this one yet…

So you’re image settings are 720×720? Did you regenerate thumbnails afterwards?

So, I was almost absolutely sure I had iamge settings for 720 x 720 but I went to check and they’re 540 x 720. Then I tried changing them to 720 x 720 and it after it says it saved the changes, it’s still back to 540 x 720 (which is what must have happened when I first tried to changed them).
Any idea why? This must be what’s causing the issue.

Not sure, you’ll have to check that with WooCommerce support
