Username from Email Problem

Not sure if this is Atelier related or not, but you guys provide great support for customers using your themes, so I thought I’d ask here.

My WooCommerce is ignoring “Automatically generate username from customer email” setting and generating username from whatever the user enters before the @ sign in their email address. If two users signup, one with [email protected] and one with [email protected]. the first user will be “john” and the system adds numerals to any pre-existing usernames, so the second will be “john1”.

Can you help me troubleshoot why my WooCommerce is not properly using the email for the username as desired?

Sorry but this is nothing to do with the theme itself, please contact WooCommerce Support about the issue

OK.  I thought maybe because the Atelier theme is overriding some of the Woocommerce login forms, but I tested on the default WP theme, and the problem was the same.  If I hear back from WooThemes, I’ll share the solution here.
