Hello Ed,
Can someone explain on how i can update the child theme..
Initially when i was uploading the Neighborhood v1.6 Theme i didn’t upload the child theme.
Now i want to update to the latest using the Child theme because i do not want to loose my customization on the parent theme.
Thanks.

Unfortunately this is not possible, you should of used a child theme if you knew you was going to make changes to the files.
The only way you would be able to do it is if you remember all of the changes you have made, then update the theme and upload the child theme, and add all of your changes to the child theme.

Its not about me update the theme, but is how to be using the child theme next time..
currently now i have update it and install the child theme.
could you be so nice to help be fix the child theme to receive the changes.. or is there anywhere i can get documentations on how to use it and picture or even a video.. wordpress explanations is difficult for me.
I can release my FTP panel to fix that for me..
and i want to revert back to 1 site not multi-site can u also help with that also?

Not sure what you mean by:
could you be so nice to help be fix the child theme to receive the changes.
When you make changes to a file, all you need to do is save it in your child theme.. simple as that!

February 14, 2014 at 9:39 am #48959Thanks Kyle,
The problem is that i updated the parent theme, i went to the child theme i could only find style.css screenshot.png that’s all i now added the functions.php from the new update v.1.63 to the child theme, i still get your theme needs to be updated to the new version of .1.63 from the network admin multi-site.
I was trying to say, i can give you my FTP details for you to kindly make it work or simply give me the steps by steps documentation so next time i can simply update the child theme and not loosing my customizations.
Thanks

Sorry but you are confusing me, you don’t need to update the child theme. We never change the child theme. You said you have already updated the parent theme?

February 15, 2014 at 10:11 pm #49230Hi Kyle
Sorry to bother you but i’ve been checking the support forum for answers (not just posting any random question that pops up in my head ๐ haha)
I have the same problem with the child theme i think as louboutin1017 has.. I also have set up the child time as described in the manual, but as there only is a css file and a screenshot i’m not sure what to do..
I’ve searched around a bit, and found out that i have to set up the same map structure as the parent theme has, As i will only have to edit some files in the woocommerce directory (to remove additional information, the review section and the ‘need help’ tab), but I’m not sure how to do so.
Also everytime i update the theme i have to re-upload my custom language files, and can’t seem to get this up and running in the child theme either.
Hope this makes sense, i’m trying to be as detailed as i can be ๐

If you do not have the functions.php file in your child theme, do not worry. Just upload it, it is only a blank file anyway with some comments on. It will not affect anything.
You can use the child theme like this for Internationalization http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes#Internationalizatio
Hope this helps!

February 28, 2014 at 2:26 am #52722I did research to find out how easy.
How to get your child theme to work.
Download both the parent theme and child theme, Warning: do not activate the parent theme.
Activate the Child theme first and download required plugins for the Neighborhood theme.
Note: Don’t worry if you cannot download the Revolution Slider. Just switch back and activate the parent theme and download the Revolution Slider.Immediately switch back/activate the child theme… by this way if you update your parent theme you might not lost your customizations..
I said “might” because its not tested because i already used the parent theme and cannot switch back to the child theme if not my site will be blank. – Lesson already learnt.
This should be added to the Installation guide of any theme for dummies.

Please Staffs or Dev, correct me if im wrong. Its for other users benefits.
Thanks Kyle.
February 28, 2014 at 9:00 am #52766Hi
Thanks for posting this, a lot of people know how to use child themes, and if not they often google it and the WordPress.org site explains what one is and how it works, so we did not think to go to deep into it in the documentation. However if I get time I will create a knowledgebase article about this to help out the people who aren’t sure how to use Child Themes as they can be confusing.
Thanks!
Kyle
