Can you please let us know how to update the theme? We are running 1.7 and have downloaded 1.9

Do we have to remove 1.7 all together? If so, will it mess up our site?

We are doing this because all of our liz atom shortcodes and other java based plugins are all of a sudden broken.

You just need to overwrite the existing files with newly downloaded files. All your content/options will remain.
