I am making a site that has many pages of experiments, videos etc to show kids how to do science experiments as well as advertise my services as a science entertainer. I am putting together products as well (planned) to eventually sell via the Woocommerce functionality.

At the moment I am making the site locally until it is ready to go live.

The info part of the site will be ready BEFORE the products so here are my questions:

    1) Can I make the woocommerce part (products etc) not visible to people? They can only view the other parts of the website. If so do I need a ‘coming soon’ page when they click products?

    2) Can I disable woocommerce to achieve this? BUT, if I do disable it, I guess i will loose the ability to make, modify my future product pages?

I know I can make specific product ‘private’ and I will do this once I have 20 products or so up and running, but at the moment I would like to make ALL of it ‘private’ but still have the ability to make/modify future product lines.

    Hope this may be possible.

    Thanks

    Hi,

awesome idea for the website, love it! 🙂

    1) You mean you want to set it up without anyone noticing? The safest solution would be to make a second installation where you set it up independently from your live site. You can of course also create duplicated pages where you add the shop and shortcodes without publishing them into your menu. that way you can access them but noone will know they’re there.

    2) yes, if you deactivate woocommerce you cannot simultaneously set it up.

    Cheers

    Hi Mel,

Thanks for you post and comments. I am getting my head around the techno stuff, so thinking about making a second installation. Does that mean I need to copy the whole website as is locally, then remove woocommerce, then once removed upload this to my domain? Once the woocommerce section is ready to go, I can then replace the domain live site with the complete woocommerce enabled site.

Now I just need to work out how to do that without affecting my current site.

    Thanks
