Tabbed pages not indexed by Google or Search Engines

Hi

Is there a way to change the url for tabbed pages from using a /# so that Google can find and index the page for SEO purposes.

The tabbed pages work so well, however it is of significant concern as Google cannot read any of the content on any other tab, barring the first one.

Is there way I can have those pages indexed, as I understand it google does not understand the a url with a #

So http://www.mywebsite.com/pages/phones#yealink

Google only sees So http://www.mywebsite.com/pages/phones

So all the other tabs and their content are not usable for SEO purposes.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to change this.

Hi George,

in fact, Google does see the other content. An anchor only marks a specific part of a HTML page. Google always sees the page as a whole, so if one searches for content which is under tab 2 or 3 of your page, google shows your page as well as if you search for something that is under tab 1. what google does not is to jump to a specific part of the page as this is done by the user and is executed on the client side, whereas Google is only interested in what’s going to and fro the server. From what I know however, Google CAN index anchor links on pages, if they are named accordingly to the searchword. AFAIK, this can be pushed by announcing Google the anchor-URL.
