We are using Woocommerce for our products. With this we have product categories.

We also created pages using swift page builder and put in the “products” widget. Our menu is currently pointing to these as our categories.

The issue we’re having is that google is picking up the Woocommerce product categories, not the ones we built in swift page builder.

We want to redirect (maybe 301 redirect) woocommerce product pages to category pages we created in swift page builder.

Any thoughts or ideas would be great.

You can setup re-driects using this: https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/simple-301-redirects/.

When was the last time Google crawled your site, are you sure they are not serving an old crawled version of the site from their previous indexing.

Do you think if we submit a re-crawl to google it won’t index those category pages? If we put 301 redirects, will won’t lose search authority on those category pages too, correct?

It will crawl those pages if there are links to it, I doubt it would remove the links from its archive. A 301 re-direct would be a possible solution + an XML sitemap to help the bot further. I should add, I’m no SEO expert, I’m a WP developer!

    Thanks,
    David.

How would we go about switching out woocommerce category page to our menu, not the ones we created in swift page builder. The crawl is still picking up the product categories.

I’m sorry I do not understand this, is this a question regarding the Google Search results?

So it looks like we have two different types of product category pages showing in Google. One is a “page” we built in the theme, the other is a “category” in woocommerce. It seems they’re both showing in Google at different times. Can we somehow combine search authority we have with pages to the “category” in woocommerce?

Unfortunalty I would not know about that, Google/Webmaster tools essentially handles that and not the theme.

Do you need the pages you built if WooCommerce automatically creates the category pages?

Woocommerce categories were created yes. Then we created “pages” that we assigned products to. Google picks up the categories, not the pages with products under them.

There is not a way to influence the Google rankings from within the theme.

You should install the YOAST SEO and submit a sitemap to Google and utilise Google Webmaster tools to manage your SEO and site crawl data.

    Thanks.
