Social sharing not displaying proper excerpt, images, etc

When I share a post via social share buttons it’s not including proper image or excerpt from the post.

Example with twitter, it just includes the title and a link and no image.

For facebook the text is a jumble of title and byline which repeats in addition, it shows a “coming soon” which was the first text I had for the article linked. It never updated when I added more content.

Hi,

1) Check this setting is enabled in Theme Options => General Options => Meta Options => Disable Social Meta Tags.

2) Have you installed the YOAST SEO plugin?

Facebook aggressively cache your share content, often the contents would not update you need to amend it on the FB sharer before you submit it. When I click the FB share on your site I see this content:

If you view a URL from your your site here you can see how the FB crawler views your content, you can also clear the FB cache.

I haven’t installed the YOAST SEO plugin. Should I? Sweet tool you linked (thank for that). The setting “Disable Social Meta Tags” is set to “Off”.

Checking source it appears the tag for og:description is empty for every page:

Please enable the option Disable Social Meta Tags and re-test initially. You may need to clear the FB crawl cache using the above link.

When “Disable Social Meta Tags” is set to on, cache flushed and it’s tested the “Featured Image” doesn’t show as the post image when sharing and the same issue where it includes the page title +breadcrumbs + byline in the excerpt persists.

With Disable Social Meta Tags set to On the page is missing all open graph tags.

That is just the FB crawler caching the image. For me:

Okay, showing correct image for me as well.

Still leaves the issue where the description being pulled is just repeats of the article headline and breadcrumbs..

Can you install YOAST Seo? This will allow greater control over this. Let me know when you do.
