Hi – I’m trying to speed up my extremely slow website. While I can see that many of the issues are mine (image optimization and caching), I have some questions.
First, there are a few lines in the image compression statement that I do not know how to fix. Here is an example:
“Losslessly compressing https://pbs.twimg.com/…/458291063635968000/K0RKdlRS_normal.jpeg could save 725B (39% reduction).”There are a couple more things like that.
Also, some of the 540×540 images are mentioned, but the theme creates those, correct? Is the problem because the original image was too big?
Compressing my images are difficult because they are so complex to begin with, and when I go past a certain point, they degrade so badly they look terrible. It’s a tough balancing act.
Second, it says to:
1. Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
2. Remove render-blocking JavaScriptI’m attaching screenshots that show the partial list of issues under each of those statements. How do I fix that?
Third, I’m not sure where to turn with browser caching. I already use WP Super Cache, but apparently that is not enough, and I’m not technical enough to use anything more complicated.
Help! I think my site is too slow for anyone to actually spend any real time looking at it. I truly appreciate any help you can give.

My poor score remains the same but it’s a little different than before (it no longer mentions optimizing images). The very first thing mentioned is this.
I assume this has to do with the theme?
Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 25 blocking script resources and 15 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.1. Remove render-blocking JavaScript:

September 9, 2014 at 10:17 am #108457Hi,
Please download and install this plugin https://github.com/OddOneOut/Better-WordPress-Minify/tree/1.3.0 according this settings http://support.swiftideas.net/knowledgebase/better-wordpress-minify/.Thanks 🙂
With Best Regards
MohammadSeptember 9, 2014 at 8:20 pm #108827Thank you!!! That helped quite a bit. I noticed there is a newer version of it but I was afraid to update it since you said to use this version. Even so, your screenshot of your settings don’t look exactly like the interface, so I’m not sure I even did it right.
I’m still left with these problems (which are much less than before).
Should Fix:
Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 2 blocking script resources and 3 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
None of the above-the-fold content on your page could be rendered without waiting for the following resources to load. Try to defer or asynchronously load blocking resources, or inline the critical portions of those resources directly in the HTML.
Remove render-blocking JavaScript:
https://sassypantsdesign.com/…-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.11.1
https://sassypantsdesign.com/…s/jquery/jquery-migrate.min.js?ver=1.2.1
Optimize CSS Delivery of the following:
https://sassypantsdesign.com/…commerce-quick-view/assets/css/style.css
https://fonts.googleapis.com/…y=Quattrocento%7CQuattrocento%7CVidaloka
https://sassypantsdesign.com/…t/themes/neighborhood/css/responsive.cssDo you have a suggestion regarding these? Maybe it’s in the settings? I don’t really understand the interface much. 🙁
September 11, 2014 at 9:14 am #109467Hi,
I have improved more things so please check. You should use W3 Total Cache and CDN to improve site speed.
Note-:- Dont use minify plugin with W3 Total Cache plugin because it has this feature.
Thanks 🙂
With Best Regards
MohammadSeptember 11, 2014 at 2:45 pm #109622Thank you, Mohammed.
1. Do you have a list of suggested settings for W3 Total Cache? I tried installing it once before but it screwed up my site so I got rid of it. I know for sure that is because I don’t understand the settings. I’d love help with that, please.
2. What CDN do you recommend? I have looked into that as well and couldn’t figure out which one to use.
3. Are you saying that if I use W3 Total Cache, then I should stop using minify? (Just clarifying.)
Thank you!!!!

We dont have any suggested settings for W3 Total Cache. You should follow plugin documents settings.2. What CDN do you recommend? I have looked into that as well and couldn’t figure out which one to use.
You can use MAX CDN. http://support.swiftideas.net/knowledgebase/speed-up-your-website-with-maxcdn/.3. Are you saying that if I use W3 Total Cache, then I should stop using minify? (Just clarifying.)
W3 Total has the feature of minify so dont need separate plugin to minify. Thanks
September 12, 2014 at 2:45 pm #110159Thank you very much! I’ll try W3 Total Cache again. Maybe I’ll search around for a tutorial. And I’ll definitely check out MAX CDN. 🙂
September 12, 2014 at 3:59 pm #110188Hi,
Yes, its ok.
ThanksOctober 1, 2014 at 10:21 pm #116506Hi again,
I am now using MaxCDN and W3 Total Cache.
Unfortunately, I am still getting this message when I test my site:
Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content (following by a gigantic list of files).
I’m including a screenshot of my W3 Total Cache settings. I have talked to the folks at MaxCDN and they, too, say that this is my problem. What do I do now? My site is super slow still.
Please help!

Unfortunately configuring W3Total Cache it’s also outside the scope of our support.
I hope you understand it.-Rui
