I bought this theme based on it’s fast page speed. Once installed my page speed is no where near what the demo shows. I have done Nothing to the site except import the demo data…
I have Better WordPress Minify installed and setup and it’s still very poor. I’m at 54/100 where your demo shows 89/100
Any suggestions?
June 30, 2014 at 3:58 am #86881Here are the issues Google is giving me:
1. Prioritize visible content
Your page requires additional network round trips to render the above-the-fold content. For best performance, reduce the amount of HTML needed to render above-the-fold content.– How is this different from your demo??
2. Leverage browser caching – How are you guys doing this on your demo?
3. Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 5 blocking script resources and 8 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.– Why would this be any different from you demo?
June 30, 2014 at 8:39 am #86932Hi
It is likely down to your hosting, not the theme. Please could I see your link to check this?

We have not done anything on the demo that is different to your site

June 30, 2014 at 6:37 pm #87093I don’t have any issues with the actual loading speed. My issue is with what I have stated in my first two posts. Could you address those things?
1. Prioritize visible content
Your page requires additional network round trips to render the above-the-fold content. For best performance, reduce the amount of HTML needed to render above-the-fold content– Your site passes the Google check. Mine does not. yet I dont see a difference. But there has to be somehthing you guys are doing differently.
2. Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content
Your page has 5 blocking script resources and 8 blocking CSS resources. This causes a delay in rendering your page.
– Again your site passes this check yet mine does not. And again you guys must be doing something different. Something special in your htaccess maybe?June 30, 2014 at 11:33 pm #87126I have a thought on this? Since all the JS and CSS files take up most of the load time on the homepage. Does the issue get solved with a CDN?
I’m running the child theme so I alway wonder is placing them in a subdomain would help speed it up.

July 2, 2014 at 1:16 pm #87494Hi @avant
I see you have Better WordPress Minify set up. They are working on an update (v1.3) which we have tested and it’s pretty slick. https://github.com/OddOneOut/Better-WordPress-Minify/issues/7
I’d recommend you giving that a try. It allows you to set where you want specific scripts to be output etc.
We set all our JS scripts to be output in the footer, however plugins such as revolution slider output to the header (which is why you see this message).
We always say to take PageSpeed results with a little haste, as it is just a tool at the end of the day, and doesn’t really compare to real user testing.
Hope that helps!

July 2, 2014 at 3:03 pm #87549I will try that new updated version Ed. Thank you.
However stating that the Google Page Speed Insights is simply a tool and doesn’t compare to real user testing isn’t totally on point with what we’re trying to achieve here. People that use that tool, such as myself, are using it to get an understanding of how Google perceives our website. Because at the end of the day that’s all that matters when it comes to Google marketing…looking your best in their ‘eyes’. User testing is a totally different thing and the two shouldn’t be confused. Google absolutely uses this tool as part of their SERP rankings…to what extent? Only Google knows.
July 2, 2014 at 3:27 pm #87562Hi @avant,
Apologies, just re-read what I wrote and realise it came off very negative towards the tool, and it wasn’t intended to be that way. Google perception is important I agree.
In terms of the “Prioritize visible content” message, you should see this hopefully go in improving the “render-blocking content” pointer. It’s Revolution Slider they are referring to as it requires scripts to load before it can be shown.

July 2, 2014 at 3:36 pm #87567No apologies necessary. I’m assuming you guys are already running that new version of Minify? I just can’t for the life of me figure how you guys get the green check and I don’t… Hopefully the new version of that plugin will help.
Thanks again!
July 3, 2014 at 2:56 am #87674I think being on WPEngine helps a bit, their servers are fantastic.
We are using the original version on the Dante demo, but then we only have standard plugins that are shipped with the theme.
