Slow load (Google Maps)??

Hi There,

Firstly, such an awesome and attractive theme.

Seem to be experiencing very very slow page load times with any pages that have the embedded Full Width Google Maps insert (eg, http://www.backpackertaxrefunds.com.au/bptr/sydney-accommodation/). This does have 4 of these Google Maps inserts however the page takes around 2-mins to load. Another page which only has 1 Google Maps full-width insert takes a considerable time to load (http://www.backpackertaxrefunds.com.au/bptr/contact/). Is there any way to speed this up or is it something to do with the Google API?

Hi,

This isn’t a problem with the Google Maps, but actually with your hosting. For the first link you posted, it took 1 minute 27 seconds for your server to respond; after that, the rest of your site loaded fully in just under 9 seconds for me (I’m based in Europe, so those 9 second could be 2-3 seconds for Aussies).

Of course, having 4 Google Maps embeds on a page does impact load times, but it definitely isn’t the cause of your extremely slow loading times. If I were you, I’d start looking for a better hosting provider to be honest.

Thanks for your reply.

While I tend to agree with you that my host isn’t the best (believe it or not they’re meant to be one of the better ones in Australia and command decent market share), before the Chalet Sunset issue, pages with Google Maps loading quite quickly indeed – much quicker than what it was after the fix which is why I thought there could be some link between the fix and the increased loading time (in addition with the host itself).

In any event, even prior to this I’ve been on the hunt for a new host and your reply has reinforced the need to seek a new host.
