    Hi Guys,

firstly, wicked theme well impressed I’ve been using for 9 months – very happy!

I am looking to change all my product images to be retina optimised which I know requires doubling their size in pixels. My only concern is that, my site is already pretty slow on smartphone devices via 3G due to the number of images and I don’t want to make it even slower by increasing the image file sizes. So my question is: Will the new retina images be compressed for mobile browsers so that download speed/time is kept low, or will upgrading to retina images slow it down further?\

    Thanks for your time

    Mark

    Hi

Yes, increasing the size of your images increases the file size, and therefore makes your site a little slower. So it’s up to you to decide wether it is more important to have a fast site or retina images

OK thanks Kyle – is there no way of coding it so that it compressed the images for when viewing on smartphone? or more usefully, when browsing not using wifi or 4G…

Not that I am aware of sorry, you will have to research that, or hire a developer

Do you not think that this will be a useful development for all of your templates given the prevalence of mobile browsing – this would reduce bounce backs from impatient customer a lot i would suspect and would benefit a lot of your customers…

If your site takes a long time to load on mobile or desktop then it will be 90% down to your host, our demos load in less that 2 seconds. Switching out images for different screen sizes is far too advanced for WordPress themes

Right ok, download speed is fine on desktop and when on wifi but just
    pretty slow via 3G.

    Thanks for your help

That’s the same with any site, wifi is obviously quicker than 3G
