    Hi,

    http://manofmany.com

The size of the thumbnail that is being served for the Recent Posts section on our homepage is too small (refer to the Editor’s Picks section).

It is a 495×374 container but the image being served is 213 x 160px in size (naturally) when looking at the source.

Should I add another thumbnail size in my functions file?

I’m trying to serve scaled images where possible in order to quicken the load times.

    Cheers,
    Scott

    Hi,

Are you talking about this 4 images in the screenshot below?

I was moreso referring to the two large images above as they are appearing particularly grainy.

But is there a way to change the function image sizes so that the sizes of images that are served are scaled?

I know once I change this setting I’ll need to regenerate the thumbnails for all posts, but I just wanted to know the correct way to go about it.

    Cheers,
    Scott

    Hi,

That’s strange because the url of the image has 420×315, and usually that correspond to the real size.

Can you provide me admin access to check it?

    Hi,

It seems that you already sorted it. What was it?
I’m not sure anymore if I installed or not the thumbnails regenerate plugin.

    Hi Rui,

I have not solved the issue as the images that are being served to the site are not scaled correctly.

Ideally I’d like to serve scaled images across the homepage and archive pages.

I’ve set up some new thumbnail sizes in the functions.php file and regenerated thumbnail sizes but I’m not sure how to ensure these are served to the relevant sections.

    I hope this makes sense.

    Cheers,
    Scott

Please refer to the test here from GT Metrix where images are not being served as scaled:

    Hi @manofmany

Unfortunately there isn’t an ideal way around this – the issue here is that the size of the image area varies from viewport size – we need to scale the images as we size them based on their largest display size (these vary between mobile/tablet/desktop).

I understand it’s annoying to get that notice, but there isn’t much way around with keeping the site responsive.
