How do products get tagged with “NEW” or “FREE” (which happened to show up on the latest products I uploaded yesterday!)? Can I control these options somewhere within the Theme?
August 15, 2013 at 3:00 pm #16581Hi,
I didn’t get your question exactly, you don’t mean you don’t want to display Free or New tag in the home page?
Thanks,
laranz.August 15, 2013 at 3:32 pm #16595Hi Laranz.
I’d like to control the product tag myself and not have it automatically generated.
For instance, I’ve been adding products to the Media database, but they are not “new” to the shop and certainly are not free! Wherever on the site they will be displayed, I don’t want to see any “new” or “free” tag showing in the top right corner of the image, unless I choose to put it there.
I hope that explains it a bit better. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post.

August 19, 2013 at 12:21 pm #17037Hi!
This sure is possible, but I’m afraid it’s not built into the theme and would have to be modified especially for you. We’d love to help you with this customization but we are only able to provide support for basic theme issues and bug fixes. We do provide support for small customizations but unfortunately this request is beyond that. Please see our general policy and guidelines for more info. You could also hire a developer to help you with your customizations.
Thank you for understanding!
Cheers!August 19, 2013 at 1:51 pm #17117Thanks for your response, Melanie, but it seems neither your or Laranz are understanding the problem I’m having with this. I AM NOT asking for anyone to build this into the theme for me, I asking why this part of the theme is automatically generating any kind of a product label and randomly putting it on the products I’ve uploaded. In fact, right now every product I have shows a label of “FREE” on it and I sure didn’t do anything to put it there!
All I was saying in response to Laranz was that IF the theme is generating these labels, then I’d want to have access to control what it is being put on the products and not suddenly discovering that my products have some sort of unnecessary label just randomly showing up out of the blue. No one has answered my original question, which was “How do products get tagged with “NEW” or “FREE”?”
Since I obviously will have to wait another 48 hours to get the next response, I really hope that the Support person will be able to finally help me to fix this problem. Please do not tell me that I need a programmer to fix this – I bought the theme, which already included the Woo Commerce function, and it should not be causing this particular issue. Again, when I first uploaded the products, they appeared on the site without any type of “label” but now these labels appear to be part of the image that shows anywhere throughout the site.
I apologize for sounding frustrated, but I’m trying to get the site “live” by the end of the week and won’t be able to do so if this particular problem isn’t solved. I look forward to your assistance.
August 20, 2013 at 4:45 am #17261Products you recently added are “new” — products without a price are “free”.
Does that clear you up?
August 20, 2013 at 8:26 am #17304Melanie – thank you for answering the original question. Just so you know, though, I never put prices on any of the products I created and it took several days before the “FREE” label ever showed up, which is the reason for the confusion.
Unfortunately, the client doesn’t want to show prices online, so I’ll have to figure out a way around this one. I decided to purchase the Neighborhood theme to have the option to easily add pricing later, in case he changes his mind.
Again, I apologize for sounding a bit frustrated in my previous post and thank you for clearing this up for me.

August 20, 2013 at 9:41 am #17310I just read another post about turning off the WC free badge and see that it was suggested using the following custom code to fix it:
.wc-new-badge {
display: none;
}Could I do the same for the FREE badge, so I can still leave the Product price amount as zero?
Also, where exactly do I place this code? I’ve seen a spot in the Theme Options area, but not sure if this is where to put these kinds of custom codes.
Thanks for the help!
August 20, 2013 at 12:34 pm #17329I’ve never written any PHP code, but just found the 2 Product files on my server and eliminated the “FREE” and “NEW” badge issue for myself.
Basically, I removed the pricing code for now within the product-images.php and content-product.php files, then replaced them on the server. However, I made sure to keep copies of the original files and can put them back on the server, should the client decide to show prices online in the future.
Melanie, you can tag this Topic as “resolved” if you wish now. Thanks again for putting up with me! 🙂
August 22, 2013 at 11:22 am #17645Congrats 🙂 Cheers
