Reposted from the envato comments tread by author request…
I have a question about the “Shop Products” widget. I have it set up like this (see picture)…

Now I have more info then when i posted the original question in the support thread, now I would describe the problem like this:

Upon further addition of categories i discovered that the “Shop Products” widget adds all categories regardless of what I put in the settings – “product category” box. I only want to add five selected sub-categories…

    How do I solve this?

The option to select categories is currently only for the products type, it doesn’t work for when you choose to display categories, the developer knows about this and it’s on the list to fix in a future update

No timescale for this yet, but it’s on the list for the next update

So new long awaited update and this change did not make it into this release?

    Hi @david.joh

Apologies, think there may have been some confusion on my part for this. So am I right in saying that what you are looking to do here, is display the sub-categories of those five selected categories, for that asset? It’s likely we’ll add a small update in the next few days with any issues with v1.9.0 – or if not I can provide an updated zip once this is resolved.

    Not really…

The five selected categories in the attached image are all sub-categories, I want to display all of them.
However the asset displays all categories regardless of what I put in that box…

I want to be able to show only the categories that I have selected…

    Hi @david.joh

That isn’t how the asset currently works. The category field when used with products, is to allow users to specify the categories from which products are shown. This is how it works when set to category mode, it is developed to show sub-categories from the categories you have selected.

We’ll have to look to see if it’s possible to have another option to display set categories, as this isn’t currently possible with auto-generation, you’d need to manually create links to these, with the image banner asset for example.

Aha so that how its intended to work…
The function I described would be nice to have too, makes it alot more flexible…
