I am consequently getting feedback from both internal customers as well as external customers that my webpage is slow. I am using the latest release of Dante with the latest release of WordPress. Already tried to improve the speed by using CDN (MaxCDN), installing WordPress SuperCache plugin and have decreased initial load time from ~9s to ~4-5s. But this still is too slow for me.
If I look at my gtmetrix report:
http://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.ac-outbound.nl/XWE5lp4O
I can see that YSlow says I make too much http requests (by loading many many js and css files) and that I should minify my JS and CSS. I have tried the latter through WP plugins, but they all seem to affect the site, so I stopped using them. The former (less HTTP requests) I don’t think I can change…
Do you have any idea how to improve loading times? Do you have tips? What are your experiences with my site?
BTW. Our (virtual) server is dedicated to the hosting of 3 corporate websites, and the server doesn’t show me much activity or any strange performance values.
August 14, 2014 at 7:56 am #100936Hi,
the first High Priority item I can see on your gtmetrix is to optimize images, so I recommend doing that because it will drastically improve your loading times!
Let me know if you were successful!
August 14, 2014 at 8:10 am #100947Hi Melanie,
Thanks, but that will save me about 23kb on load, don’t think that that will solve my problem. If you look at the YSlow report, you’ll see 3 more pressing issues:
Add Expires headers –> I can fix myself
Make fewer HTTP requests –> Can’t fix myself, or don’t know how.
Minify JavaScript and CSS –> Tried this, but haven’t found a 100% proper solution..Google Page Speed says I have to put some js files in the footer area instead of in the header, since they slow loading the page…

Don’t know how to do that though, other than changing the templates themselves?
August 14, 2014 at 9:27 am #100991Hey,
I see!
about the minifying, maybe you want to have a look through these threads?
http://support.swiftideas.net/search/?q=minifyWhat’s crazy tho, your website loads within 1.8 seconds for me!
August 21, 2014 at 4:38 pm #103134Hey Melanie
Do you guys have an updated post about the Minify? Every time I try this on Dante it breaks the site. Also I’m trying to find a way to stop render-blocking with the JS & CSS. Any tips on that?
August 22, 2014 at 8:44 am #103300Hi, did you check the threads from our forum search? Let me know ๐
August 22, 2014 at 8:22 pm #103443I’d also like to know if there is an update for Better WP Minify compatibility as it was breaking my site as well, so I had to stop using it.
I’ve already tried this… http://support.swiftideas.net/knowledgebase/better-wordpress-minify/
August 24, 2014 at 6:13 am #103548bump for anyone who has advice or tips. ๐

MohammadSeptember 26, 2014 at 10:35 pm #115039@JGVerhoef I’ve noticed that your site loads fast. Please let me/us know how you did this.

-RuiSeptember 29, 2014 at 12:11 pm #115450Hi @tynus,
We have had some issues with an update, and had to reinstall the complete server. With the reinstall we made some changes to the initial setup:
1. switch to nginx instead of Apache
2. With installing the theme, I did not upload all the example content. Those were the major changes. Since then the website is fast indeed. What is your site?
September 30, 2014 at 11:59 am #115862September 30, 2014 at 3:38 pm #115978Hi, I think it mainly has to do with the nginx then.
I am on apache…deleting all of the xample content could help a bit too.I can’t show you the site, unfortunally, client doesn’t want it ๐ sorry
Have a great day and thanks for sharing.
September 30, 2014 at 3:57 pm #115995No problem
