    Hi,

    I’m working on a site where I’ve added a custom post type. Everything on that score seems fine, but if I create a new page, it uses the index.php template and not page.php despite the fact that I haven’t touched or moved the base templates: I’m using a child theme and I haven’t created page.php in there – I’ve used single-{custom-post-type}.php with the SF layout file.

    Any ideas why my new pages would be using the wrong template?

    Additionally, if I go to any URL like this: domain.com/anything/ I get a list of blog posts (index.php template) and not a 404.

    Many thanks in advance,
    Lorraine

    Hi,
    Please rename the page.php file to debug and see the results.
    Thanks

    Hey Lorraine!

    Could you please supply a WP login credential for us and post a link to your site or page in question for us to investigate?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    What would renaming the page.php file do, and what would I change it to?

    Happy to provide access! Will add new user to WP and you’ll no doubt get an email with log in details.

    Many thanks,
    Lorraine

    EDIT: I’ll just post the details in a PM…

    Hey Lorraine,

    That textbox is powered by BuddyPress – the size alteration is native to BuddyPress.

    You can change that with CSS:

    #buddypress textarea#whats-new {
      min-height: 200px!important;
    }

    Thanks.

    What is the custom post type you created? I see a few in the admin.

    Thanks.

    Hi Lorraine,

    If I try to create a new page, the the correct default template is used.

    Have you resolved this?

    Thanks.

    Hey,

    Ok this is going to be a tough one to trace back.

    Could we start by:

    1) Disable the child theme and enable the main theme – report any changes
    2) Disable plugins apart from Swift Framework – report any changes

    – Did this happen only after adding the custom post type via the CPT plugin?

    Thanks

    Hi,

    I’m not sure when it started to happen.

    I tried the parent theme – no change.
    I disabled all plugins apart from SF – no change.

    Any new pages use index.php and this format /anything/ will give you a page with blog posts.

    I deactivated the theme, and it is still happening so it’s not a theme issue.

    Hi Lorraine,

    As this is not a theme related issue it falls outside the scope of support.

    You could check your server error log or log a ticket with your host to help you investigate this.

    Thanks,
    David.
