The mouseover title effect works in response to the mouse hovering over an image. But on a phone or tablet, it does not react to a tap with a hover effect – it interprets the first tap as a click, and you jump off the page, so you can’t browse image titles since each tap is a navigation click.
On themes such as Avada (also on Themeforest), on a mobile device, the first tap summons the mouseover title, and the 2nd tap is counted as a click. Is that possible in Cardinal? I’ve been asked to float titles over images, but to my knowledge, Cardinal does not support this on touch devices, so I will not be able to use Cardinal if that is the case.
thank you in advance.January 8, 2015 at 7:06 pm #140164Hi,
In mobile and tablets the interaction is a bit different, there isn’t the click event only the touch events.
Can you provide a screenshot of that mobile mouseover title? And also the url for that site page.
thanks

January 8, 2015 at 7:44 pm #140180If you go here on a tablet, you will see that on touch devices it responds to the first click by displaying the info, then the 2nd click acts as the actual link click.

If you go there on a laptop, you will see that it mouseovers as usual. This is their regular demo — no special coding has been done. This is the Avada theme I mentioned. So somehow they alter the mouseover behavior to be friendly for touch devices.
January 8, 2015 at 7:59 pm #140183Further, this is the site my client saw that has the nice touch-responsive galleries, so they are asking for this feature on their own site. I looked at the code and saw it was Avada from Themeforest.

Now I understand what you mean, but will have to forward to our development but usually the tap in mobile it’s the same has a click in a desktop PC.

January 9, 2015 at 1:43 am #140244Thanks. It would be a really great feature to add, since this is a factor that limits design options. If the image titles appear on desktop, but fail to appear on tablet/phone, then from my perspective (the perspective of the end-user) they are not valid options to use. Since typically 50% or more of visits come from mobile devices, features need to work on all platforms. I can’t have half the visitors not seeing the titles of images, or being frustrated because they can’t browse a gallery.
I want to buy a 2nd copy of Cardinal for this new site, but without this feature, I won’t be able to — I’ll have to use a theme like Avada instead.
Can you let me know what the developers say? I’m anxious to know if I’ll be able to use your theme for my new site or not.January 12, 2015 at 1:23 am #140729Hi there,
Thanks for the feedback. That isn’t a specific function as such, it’s just how mobile devices deal with things that change within a link. Our code is setup differently so the link is actually a separate element where nothing changes, and as such there is no need for the 2nd tap. I can see why this would be desirable in certain cases, however we could alternatively provide css for an adjusted caption on mobile devices if that would be more appropriate for you?
Let me know.

January 12, 2015 at 1:30 am #140730Yes! An adjusted caption to be mobile-friendly would be amazing!
January 12, 2015 at 3:49 pm #140969If you could post a link to a page on your site with the asset you’d like this to occur, I can test & provide some css for you.
Thanks,
– Ed
January 12, 2015 at 6:02 pm #141010Thank you. I was enquiring prior to buying a new copy of Cardinal in order to do a new project, so I don’t have a page yet. Can I write you back here when I do?
January 12, 2015 at 6:12 pm #141012Of course!
Thanks,
