Modifying WooCommerce Page Layout

Dear Swift,

We’re looking to modify the product page and the product-category page to meet our clients specification. We haven’t had much luck so far so we’re contacting you to see if you would know how to do this.

On the product page, we’re looking to have the Brand Name on a separate line to the Product Name. Because this will need to be in a user friendly (very limited computer knowledge) manner so that when we pass the site onto the client that they can continue the product upload and management.

This rules out the use of HTML inside the title unless it’s absolutely needed.

On the product category section, they would like the brand name in bold followed by the name of the product on the next line. And to remove the product category tags.

I’ve emulated the two scenarios using the inspect element tool.

Hi,

For these modification you will need a developer to modify the WooCommerce template files and likely add in the functionality to handle the post title/brand name difference, here are the locations of the files:

The WooCommerce template files are located in atelier/woocommerce.

The single product structure is set in this file: single-product.php and the contents are pulled in from the subfolder: atelier/woocommerce/single-product/.

The product category page template is atelier/woocommerce/archive-product.php.

What effect would future updates have on modifications to those files. How would we prevent interruption.

Hi,

Best practice with WordPress is to use a child theme, this will mean your changes will not be lost after an update. Full docs: https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

We supply a sample child theme with the theme, so you would need to add your changed files to the child theme folder.
