Hello,
I’m trying to change my media settings for ideal viewing on cell phones. When importing photos I would like to make them as large as possible so that it’s comfortably viewed on a computer, but then also formatted to the proper ratio so that the images don’t look skewed when viewed on the cell phones.
I did some research and found that the proper ratio is 1.33W/H for most cell phones. I’ve gone into media settings and changed my medium size dimensions to fit this ratio: 480 width and 320 Height so that it’s big enough to be seen on computer and doesn’t look skewed on the cell phone. However, when I save those media settings, and then import a new media file into the post, it automatically changes my medium option to size of 239 width and 320 height, which is a ratio of 1.3H/W, not 1.33W/H as it should be. The width should be set wider than the height and its automatically changing these options for me.
If you can share any advice on the settings I need to change please provide. I really appreciate your help as I tried to look this up myself and could not find a solution anywhere.
Thanks,

Checking in to see if you’ve had any luck here finding out what I need to do to format these photos correctly.
Thanks,

Sorry this took so long.
The thing is, with the theme, you don’t need to specify any sizes, since it already specifies them itself and uses the appropriate ones when needed. They shouldn’t get skewed or anything – do they not show up like in our demo for you?

I will show you what I mean. If you click on the following blog post you can see that the pictures are very small when viewed on the computer, but are not skewed when viewed on your phone (i’m looking at it on iphone4, also the embedded youtube video in my post isn’t formatted correctly to fit on the screen when viewed on the phone – only part of the frame is showing – not sure if you know why that is).
Blog post: http://www.ispaci.com/the-amazing-kitchen-island/
Picture sizes are set as 224 x 300 (medium size) under the media library. If you go to this blog post where I changed the size of the picture to be larger so that it can be seen better on the computer, you can see that when viewed on the phone the pictures look skewed.
Blog post: http://www.ispaci.com/happy-birthday/
Picture sizes are set as 564 x 421I would like for the pictures to be larger than 224 x 300 but can’t seem to find a good way to make them larger so that photos are not skewed when viewed on the cell phone.
Thanks,
CheriseSeptember 12, 2013 at 8:01 pm #21540Hi Cherise,
I see the images in the source code are double the size of what you specified in the media settings, so that 224×300 is the one forcing them to show up smaller.
Also, note that on mobile, the content, including images, will adapt to the screen size, depending on context (the width of the container they’re in).
Not really sure why you get double-sized thumbnails in your posts, but if you can privately reply with a WP admin login, I’ll be happy to take a look and try to fix this.

Does this mean no matter the size of the pics I choose for my posts, they will not appeared skewed when viewed on the phone?
Thank,
CheriseSeptember 24, 2013 at 10:08 pm #23661Also, is there a certain size for my embedded you tube videos that I should specify so they fit well on the phone screen?
September 26, 2013 at 2:39 pm #23911Hi Cherise,
1. Yes, they should all look OK on mobile now, regardless of their size.
2. I would try with 100% width and auto height for videos.
