Dear Swift Idea People
Everything was going swimmingly, but I have some problems that I can’t resolve. I have searched the support forums right here but they have only left me more confused and I don’t know what to do next.
When replying please bear in mind I am not a web developer and I don’t understand coding (I speak only very basic ‘schoolgirl’ html).
Firstly all my updates are up-to-date, but:
1. A pretty important bit of my Woo seems to have died, including all the variations, specifically; there are no ‘buy now/add to cart’ buttons against any of the products. Disaster!
2. The little white boxes which used to appear in the ’tile’ – I think that’s what you call a product image thingy – has now disappeared which is a shame because I like that feature. Now, the price and title appears BELOW the product image in, for example, one of the category pages. (To see what I mean, see ‘watercolours’),
3. How do I disallow comments on the blog? The usual simple checkbox in ‘settings > discussion’ doesn’t make a scrap of difference. Could this be some function that has been carried over when I imported stuff over from my existing website theme (currently at http://www.janetomlinson.com) ?
4. How do I get rid of ‘additional information’ that appears against some of the products? (For example, see http://jtnew.coopa.net/product/foxglove/ – the line beneath the product ‘Description’. Again, could this also be a hangover that has been carried over from my previous theme? If this is the case, how do I get rid of it (bearing in mind I’m not a coder) or do I just have to live with it?
5. In my main ‘shop’ landing page (in the main menu called ‘Gallery of paintings’ & in the page back-end called ‘gallery shop’) I have a problem I can’t work out at all. The first 10 products show smaller and in a different style, and all the rest show larger with the product information underneath. Can you shed any light on what’s going on here? I only want the bigger products to show, but with the product information in scroll-over style or with the white boxes which used to appear. To be honest I’ve got to the point where I don’t really care how they appear, as long it’s consistent throughout all product & category pages.
Sorry to bombard you with so much! I should say I think Atelier is an amazing theme and as you can see, for someone more used to painting pictures that making websites with a zillion whizzy options, I’m not making too bad a job of it.
Thanks and love from
JaneAugust 26, 2015 at 2:06 pm #207701Hi Jane,
No problem. Here goes!
1)
Please change this option from “On”, to “Off”. Theme Options => WooCommerce Options => Catalog Mode => Off.
2)
Same as no.1
3)
Edit a post, Located “Discussion” settings box and uncheck “Allow Comments”. Handy plugin also available: https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-comments/
4)
Remove the content from the product’s main WP editor. You are using the Product Short Description.
5)
The problem here is that you have this set as your shop page in WooCommerce settings which automatically outputs the products, however you are also using the page builder to add products to the page which is why you get two different sets of products with different layouts.
Please edit that page. You will see the page builder asset called “Shop Products”.
I am not clear 100% on what you want here, are you looking to get both products row looking the same?
Cheers,
David.August 26, 2015 at 5:59 pm #207842Hi David Martin
Thank you!
1) Worked a treat! THANK YOU.
2) As above! *squeals with joy*
3) OMG – brilliant ๐4) No, I see – there’s a setting in Product data > attributes > visible on the product page, and unchecking that seems to have solved it.
5) Ah ha! Deleting the ‘shop products’ asset on my ‘shop’ page has fixed it. Of course. Genius ๐
Aaaaand, I have two more simple questions, if I may (you have been so helpful)
A) How do I get my new ‘shop’ page title to show the words I want to show (‘Gallery of paintings’) and not ‘Products Archive’ in the browser tab? There is nowhere to edit it on that page. It must be *somewhere* though…
B) When I have finished making my website, should I DELETE some/most/all of the ‘unused’ pages or should I simply switch them all to DRAFT? (so that they don’t show up in a sitemap is what I’m thinking.)
THANK YOU again & lots of love
JaneAugust 26, 2015 at 6:14 pm #207848Hi Jane,
That is great to hear, thanks for the kind words!
A) SEO => Titles & Metas โ> Post Types (top tab) => Custom Post Type Archives (towards the bottom) => Products => Title
B) Keep them as “Draft” for reference, if you encounter any issues which I doubt you would you could delete them.
Thanks,
David.August 26, 2015 at 6:20 pm #207851Superb! HUGE thanks for this, DM.
That concludes my questions about shoppy stuff… now onto sorting out all my imported blog posts.
