I haven't updated for over a year. Help needed. V1.68 to V3.15. How to?….

Hi there, I actually never really realised that I needed to update the theme files through WordPress on a regular basis. I only recently came across the them update section and would like to obviously update the theme to make it work better since there are quite a few updates that have been made. I am finding the site rather slow and the homepage slider is extremely slow when opening up the page.

I would really appreciate if you were able to advise and/or have a look at the site to let me know what you think could be done.

My main question is that – If I was to update from V1.68 to V3.15 will there be glitches in the theme? I am fearful I may loose all my hard work!

Hi,

If you have any customization in the code you will have to apply them in the latest version.

The best option would be to duplicate your live site to a development site and test there the upgrade to avoid having problems in the real site.

Thanks for your comments. I’m not totally familiar of how to set up a test site so would be wary of doing so.

No problem. That’s the most safe way to do it.

There are some plugins to help duplicate your site like this one

Duplicator – WordPress Migration Plugin

But if you don’t feel comfortable doing better to hire someone. This takes a maximum of 2 hours to do.
