Google Fonts Slow Down Site (follow-up)

Hi Guys,

This is a follow up on this thread: http://www.swiftideas.com/forums/topic/google-fonts-slow-down-site/

It was marked as resolved so I started a new one to keep things organized.

Question:
– Does loading regular fonts solve this problem completely?
– Is there a way to self-host the google fonts to avoid this problem? If so, can you refer to any techniques that can be used or is this too much of a hassle, not advisable?

Hi Joost,

Loading standard web fonts is always quicker than google fonts, but with caching this should reduce the load time. I’m unaware of any method to self host google fonts. The main thing is checking the load time impact of each font on the google web fonts site, and making sure you load as few as possible really.

I’d also recommend WP Super Cache if you don’t have it set up already.

Thanks for looking in to this for me.
I’ve switched to standard web fonts to speed up the loading time. I use W3TC for caching but that didn’t reduce the loading time.

Anyway solved this way 🙂
