    Hi,
    I want to add a gallery to my website but having couple of queries
    We have got a huge collection of pictures. o use the gallery feature correctly we have to make categories but the question is how will it handle it when we’ll add sub categories to the main categories? Like for instance if you look at this http://dante.swiftideas.net/portfolio-one-column-standard-style/portfolio-four-gallery/ you have divided it into 5 categories: Graphic Design, Illustration, logo Design, Typography, Visualizations. What if we want to add sub categories?
    What is the difference between four column standard & gallery?
    Do we have to make the size of pictures to be uploaded in the gallery consistent or the gallery feature will adjust it automatically?
    What compressor you suggest to apply on pictures to make them look in good quality yet in smaller size?
    Looking forward to a prompt reply

    Hi

    There are 2 types of post, portfolio or gallery. Sometimes people get mixed up as the portfolio asset has a ‘gallery’ type layout, but this just means the title and category show on hover rather than underneath.

    If you want to show an actual gallery of images then I suggest using the Gallery post type. Then add a ‘gallery’ page builder asset to your page

    The image sizes to not have to be consistent
    We optimize the images in photoshop

    Add this to your custom css:

    .spb_gallery_widget.col-sm-4 .flexslider.gallery-slider {
      max-height: 430px;
    }

    The issue is all the images are different heights

    I used the gallery element but when the problem is when i add many galleries to my page gets heavy and results in slow loading. How to get rid of this?

    Hi

    Well that’s kind of what you have to expect? If a page has to load a lot of images it’s obviously going to affect loading times. There’s not really any way to ‘get rid of it’. You’d just have to not have so many images on your page.

    Also make sure you optimize your images to make them as small file size as you can. This is a good tool: https://compressor.io/

    I already optimized pictures. The maximum size doesn’t exceed 200 kb. Could you please share links of some galleries using dante for ideas?

    Is there anyway to get this to crop from the bottom of the image?

    My images get cropped retaining the top but would like to reverse this.

    Thanks,
