We’ve been keen to explore having an autoplaying video frame that is fully responsive and prioritises aspect ratio to avoid cropping – which is what we currently get.

We’ve found this, which will ensure aspect ratio preservation on re-sizing. Is it possible to drop this bit of code into the html of our theme so this will work?

    many thanks

    Hi,

I’m not sure about this subject, will forward it to our head developer.

    Hi @Gilespie

If you can show us where you are using a video on your site where it’s not already like this, we’ll happily take a look!

Great thanks – we’ve been having no end of trouble with the video and getting optimum resolution to frame v browser sizes. Everything comes out inadequate here:

    Home

and as you can see, any resizing just crops the video.

    We want this:

and believe this code will fix it but as to whether we can get that into the theme we don’t know.

    thanks in advance.

    Hi @Gilespie

Pretty sure I gave you the reason for this on another topic? Again, the reason is that the video background is intended as stated – as a background, and not the focus for the sizing of the element. If you were to use the Video element from the page builder, the resizing would be 100% perfect.

Now you wouldn’t be able to overlay something here by default, and it would have the controls, but you could resolve that with some customisations. That is the route you would need to take to achieve the desired outcome here.

    Thanks,

    – Ed

yeah, we’ve had plenty of people dipping into this and trying to make what we want work without success – we understood that ‘its just not possible with this theme’ but thought there must be a way surely?

    Thanks for the clarification though.

No problem – I’ll add it to the request list for some more functionality to the video asset – i.e. overlays.
