I’m trying to create my own “Featured Posts” section within the Blog Post Carousel, similar to the demo theme’s idea of “Editor’s Picks”. I understand that Featured Posts is simply a title for the section.
Is there a way to set specific posts to be featured or pull specific posts from different categories to be featured? Or can we only display all posts from a designated category(s) in the drop down menu? I’d like to be able to select specific posts to be featured in this area.
September 3, 2013 at 4:40 pm #19637You can only choose a specific category, but not specific posts, unless you add those specific posts to a specific category and choose that category ๐
September 4, 2013 at 12:13 am #19737Hi Melanie,
If this is the case, then the demo home page does not visibly appear to make sense to me. Under “Editor’s Pick’s” the featured posts appear to all be from the parent category, “Art & Design.” However, under “Daily News” posts are being featured from both the parent categories of “Lifestyle” & “Entertainment.” If I can only choose a specific category in either Blog Post Carousel or Recent Posts, then how do you have posts from two different parent categories being displayed?
Here’s what I’m trying to do as a travel blogger. I have the following parent categories:
-Travel Destinations
-Canada
-Ontario
-Toronto
-British Columbia
Travel Experiences
Reviews
– Hostels
– Hotels
– CitiesI want to be able to feature articles in the blog post carousel that are labelled (colour label) from all three main parent categories. For example, I want a post from Toronto (dark green), Hostels (blue), experience (purple). Similar to what you have setup in the demo. While I understand the demo carousel is connected to only one parent category, the recent posts element contains blog posts from two different parent categories. I want to be able to do this in both the recent post element and blog post carousel element.
Based on looking at the Recent Posts element in an empty page, I can only see it set to one specific category as you mentioned. However, as I pointed out, your demo home page is different. How am I able to accomplish my desired action?
I’m trying to use the “Home” page template, provided in the theme, as my own Home Page. Perhaps am looking at or referring to the wrong page provided in the template to achieve what the demo home page is doing?
Your assistance is appreciated.
September 4, 2013 at 1:52 pm #19887Hi, of course you can choose multiple categories by holding down the Cmd / Ctrl key on your keyboard while clicking on the categories inside the swift page builder post carousel element.
I was saying you cannot choose specific posts, like post 1, 5 and 8 from category “cucumber”. You can only choose the whole category.
September 4, 2013 at 2:16 pm #19903Thanks Melanie! That makes a lot more sense, however, that doesn’t appear to be working for me.
Perhaps there is a bug there?

Not sure how that function works on your end. Cheers!
September 6, 2013 at 1:34 pm #20299Hi, I need to apologize, I was looking at the wrong theme when I told you about the multiple category add.
I copied our code to http://www.theimperfecttraveller.com/testing-multiple-category-add/ for you
It is only possible to add one category with Supreme.
CheersNovember 26, 2013 at 4:27 pm #33555I’m trying to achieve the same result. I will create a “featured” category, assign this category to a carousel and manage my posts that way. Then, I will hide this “featured” category label so that only the real category is visible. Can you point to me the file where this category label is generated so I can put in an exception.
thanks.
