I’ve received a theme update notification. I opened the “details of the new update” in a new tab and before I even read the details, I proceeded with the “Update” as well. However, to my horror, I realized that the theme that I’ve just updated was not Atelier. It’s some random theme that begins with the letter K (if I didn’t remember wrongly). I had a bad premonition. True enough, my whole website was gone. I went to “Appearance->Theme” to find out what has happened. I realized that my Atelier Theme is no longer in the “Enabled” section. It’s now in the “Broken” category. There’s a brief description saying “Broken Theme: Stylesheet is missing.” How can I bring back my website? Please Help!! Thank you.

    Hi,

Please download the zip file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vzw8lcre5uh7svo/atelier.zip?dl=0

Extract it and upload the file to your server overwriting the old atelier theme folder.

Once complete, activate it in your WP dashboard.

    Thanks.

If you have modified core theme files then yes, they should be in a child theme.

Theme Options / Page Options and content will remain.

    Thanks.

    Hi David,

After overwriting the old file and activating the “Atelier Theme”, my site is back to normal now. Thanks for your help.
Just wondering… what do I need to do with my “Atelier Child Theme”? Do I need to activate it as well?
Also, could you briefly explain to me what has actually happened so that I could avoid such problems from happening again?

    Thank you.

    Hi

You only need to use the child theme if you are editing theme functions or adding custom css
