Hello, i bought a cardinal theme, and i tried to import the demo content as the documentation says…but when i try it, this message appears…

“Sorry, there has been an error. This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version number”

and… he keeps trying to import, but nothing happens..

“Cardinal Demo Content Importer The demo content is importing, please wait.

Note: the page may refresh at intervals, this is normal.”

Need help asap, thank you.

Hi, could you check back with your hosting company to see if safe mode is enabled? If so, ask them to disable it!

On which version of WP are you?

I am experiencing the exact same problem. There is definitely no safe-option enabled also already turned this allow-fopen-thingy on. Fresh install on WP 3.9.1. with Cardinal 1.02.
Importing theme and color options works flawlessly though.
I really need to get the photography-two demo content to understand how to properly build the portfolio as it is in the demo.

so, there is no hosting and wordpress error, its the cardinal… we need a fix about this.. i need to build my portfolio and im losing time -_-

Hi guys,

We’ve only seen this error in instances where allow_url_fopen is set to off. I’ve not seen it caused by anything else. We did a lot of testing here, so I would be very surprised if it wasn’t a hosting issue. Can you possibly check server logs for any errors, and enable WP_Debug in wp-config.php?

Heads up on this, I have tried this on Heart Internet & Site5, Site5 has no problems but the demo content installer just won’t work on Heart Internet (get the same error as mentioned in this thread). Tried everything so just think there must be something on Heart stopping it so the problems definitely lie with the hosting company. I have attached the php info from Hearts server setup which may help. Noticed that allow_url_fopen is On but allow_url_include is Off. Not sure if this may cause any problems.

Okay. I got tired of waiting. Extracted the corresponding xml-File from the demo importer plugin directory and used wordpress-importer to import it. Worked nicely.

This could be a solution to the problem, offer this as an alternative and have a separate zip file with the xml files? Will try it on Heart Internet.

Glad you got it working – we are hoping to push an update soon which removes the need for allow_url_fopen.

@abovecreative – it may be some other setting they have. We are working on removing the need for this to be enabled. Will keep you updated.

Hey guys,

Got a modified version of the content importer which uses a different method to get the file to import. I’ve attached it, and you can install it by removing the current plugin, and then adding it via Plugins > Add New > Upload.

Let me know how you get on with it!
