Hi
Like many others have already said, this is a great theme so thank you! However, after purchasing this theme, i have spent countless hours just trying to get a similar look of your demo (never mind to be exactly the same after reading and searching this forum) and it has been frustrating.
First, it just seems impossible to successfully import and restore your demo regardless what i have tried. i contacted my host and they followed exactly as what’s required for the php settings but still, absolutely 0% chance of success to import the full content file. Then, i had to try the split files… Sometimes it works sometimes it does not. After going back and forth, it seems to have everything imported. Surprisingly, you’ll notice how many duplicates it creates under each menu. I guess that’s because sometimes when i tried to import but failed, it did import something into WordPress, then when i went back and tried to import again, it created duplicates. Long story short, following the instructions, is not going to get me anywhere near the demo. (even i tried to import the setting under Theme-import using that txt file)
So now i have a half demo like site, when i go to “shop” page, it’s blank (both on the front end and back end). No sidebar, no content (however products were imported and showing under the admin’s page, under Products).
then, I wonder why the sidebar does not show… You go to widgets section, except “sidebar one” everything else is blank. now it also makes sense why the footer does not appear as what’s in the demo, those four columns are missing. If i dig deep enough, other people had same questions.. so we could sort of achieve that by adding those footer by ourselves and some custom CSS as well to make it as nice as the demo.. yet again, i still have no idea how to restore the 4th column of the footer, those social media icons and to make it same of the mailchimp subscription button.
Can someone help? At least to make a working demo. I did not pay for a framework… I saw the demo, and that’s what attracted me and decided to pay for it. It is honestly a frustrating experience so far after spending so much time and effort trying to make it work. With hosting provider’s tech support, we even created a few wordpress and started from scratch a few times but still did not have a single success.
Anyway.. happy holidays!
December 27, 2013 at 11:49 am #39105I agree. I am new to WP and I thought the whole point of buying a theme is that most of the coding was done for you. I too can’t load demo material. Forget going into files and adjusting coding line etc. If I wanted to do that I would learn the code and build my own website.
The demo looked great, would be great to have it work close to demo video.
Will keep trying.
January 2, 2014 at 9:33 pm #39923Hey there,
Apologies you’ve had issues with the demo content, I understand how frustrating it can be at times. Unfortunately the WordPress importer is severely lacking in stableness, and isn’t high on their priority list for improvement.
The best bet most people have found is to go back in the browser when you get an error, and then continue the process as if nothing had happened, that seems to continue on the progress and not cause duplicates.
For the shop page, make sure you have it set in WooCommerce > Settings > Pages. You can then set the sidebar in Theme Options > WooCommerce Options.
Also, the widgets aren’t included in the exported XML, so you do have to add those manually. For the subscribe column, see here:
[social style='light' type='dribbble,facebook,twitter,vimeo,youtube,tumblr']<br/><hr><br/><p style="margin-bottom: 10px;">Sign up for our newsletter:</p><br/><div id="mc_embed_signup"><br/><form action="http://edcousins.us2.list-manage1.com/subscribe/post?u=a3950048c69f7be72a27013a9&id=68a002176a" method="post" id="mc-embedded-subscribe-form" name="mc-embedded-subscribe-form" class="validate" target="_blank" novalidate><br/> <input type="email" value="" name="EMAIL" class="email" id="mce-EMAIL" placeholder="Enter your email address here" style="margin-bottom: 0;" required><br/> <div class="clear"><input type="submit" value="Subscribe" name="subscribe" id="mc-embedded-subscribe" class="button" style="visibility:hidden;"></div><br/></form><br/></div>
Hope that helps.
