Change post thumbnail background color for specific categories

Hello,

I’d like to know if it would be possible to modify post thumbnail background colors for specific categories.
For exemple, when I display a post carousel, i’d like some of my post thumbnail background to be grey and all the others to stay white.
Is that possible ?

I hope this question is clear (english is not my tongue language).
