I did some searching but couldn’t find what I needed, I apologize if I missed it.

I would like to use a boxed layout with a background image sticking out from each side of the content area. What size should I make the background image and what size should I leave black for the content – is there a way to have my image adjust with the content so that it is always aligned?

See an example.

EDIT: I resolved this, just reversed the image and selected AUTO.
