    I posted in another thread about trying to edit php files but I want to customize the home page in addition to the available functionality. Would it be best to copy a home page template to my child theme and add what I code I need?

    You are right. You can make changes through child theme.

    So I would have to create an /includes/ folder and move all the files I want to edit to that folder (and any of its subfolders)?

    Hi,
    Yes, you can move the files as you want. You may also override all theme functions through child theme’s functions.php.
