add external url to featured image wordpress

Hi there,

I would like to add an external URL to the featured image on posts. A featured image on different posts may link to different URLs. If a user clicks the image then it links he/she to that URL for further information. I found one ticket similar to this topic but a while ago and not sure how to do it.

I’ve found a few links following:

I was trying to find the places that they mentioned in single.php but I couldn’t find it. I need your help if it is possible.

That wouldn’t actually work as the image does not have a permalink set.. this is a pretty difficult customisation, you would need somewhere in the backend to set your link, then you would need to add the output of the link to the php file. Unfortunately this customisation is beyond our scope of support as it’s more work than a basic customisation.
