    Hi,

I need some help with my website. It seems to load very slowly. After searching through the theme forum, I have done a check on:

    http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/gU9LF/lahpompom.com

However I do not know how to analyse the data. Is is the problem with my images or do I need to switch to another hosting (I’m based in Singapore and using Bluehost currently). So far, I did not resize my images because I saw from the theme forum that if I upload a large image, it will be optimised and scaled down. Is that true or do I need to resize everything? Also, is it necessary for me to pick a Singapore hosting company to increase the speed?

    Thank you.

    Best Regards,
    Jillyn Teo

    Hi,
Please use any cache plugin like WP super cache to optimize speed. Hope it should improve your site speed.
    Thanks 🙂

Mine does too, Ive been working on it for days. I seems to run worse with cache plugins. The WP super is one I tried. Maybe Im not using is right? I dont know… Its inactive right now.

Most of my images are 1200×800 optimized for web use. Any size I load is web use. And if anything I did a huge clean out of content that was mostly pictures. I trimmed to help with speed and some was just outdated.

If I eliminate the revolutionary sliders its helps speed it up. One is eliminated right now and I dont want it eliminated…

I know its not the host. I dont know what else to do…

My portfolio galleries seem to struggle and when killing the slide show on my photography home page helped speed. Right now its just a picture. Only one slide in the show on the mason jar page..

This image is 2.8mb, that’s why it’s taking a long time to load. The initial pause before any of the site loads in down to your hosting. Other than that, everything else seems fine

    Hi

I downloaded the wp super cache but it doesn’t seem to help the speed. Can you help me check what could be the problem?

One question, Is it ok for me to upload an image of 2000 x 3000 pixels? It will be scaled down right? Or do I need to manually upload a smaller image? Is my low speed due to the images size?

You need to upload smaller images, 2.8mb is way too large and causing the slow loading. No you will need to upload smaller image sizes, keep the file size below 600kb

Are you referring to my website http://www.lahpompom.com or kastylephotography.net?

Apologies I was looking at the other website.

Checking your website on http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/gU9LF/http://lahpompom.com I can see that it’s your images that are causing the problem (see screenshot)

Your images are over 1MB, some 1.5MB, this is too large. When you say:

So far, I did not resize my images because I saw from the theme forum that if I upload a large image, it will be optimised and scaled down.

I’m afraid that’s not the case, your images will be scaled down on the front end, however the website will still be loading the original image. You need to upload images at a size less than 600KB

Ok thank you for clarifying it Kyle. Two more questions:

    – I will reduce all my image size. May I know what is the ideal image dimension to upload for the single product page? Will reducing the size affect the retina display?

    Many thanks,
    Jillyn

Uploading images at 562px will be ideal as that is the size used at the product page.

    Hi Kyle,

I meant, is there a recommended length and width?

Yes, 562px wide, unless you are using the zoom feature, then upload around 1000px wide
