Is it possible to rename the theme directory, yet still have the updates apply automatically through the WordPress Admin/Dashboard?

I prefer to rename the theme so that my competitors do not try to replicate it.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sean

    Hi

Yes you can rename the theme directory if you wish, a better way would be to use a child theme and name that directory whatever you want, as you will also be able to set the name of the theme in the style.css file

I wasn’t aware the child theme directory could be different than ________-child. What else (if anything) needs to be done other than renaming the child theme directory to make sure it works properly?

That option somewhat works, however, there are still many instances in the markup that show …/wp-themes/neighborhood/…

If you want you can change the name of the neighborhood directory, as long as you don’t change the theme name in the style.css file

I have two directories for the theme:

    /neighborhood
    /neighborhood-child

Do I rename both or just one of them?
And does anything in the file need to be changed?

You can rename the neighborhood-child folder, and in the style.css file of the child theme you can also set the name of your theme

    Hi Kyle,

I was about to ask a similar question until I came across this. I tested changing both the name of the Cardinal folder and Cardinal child folders to the name of the new site and updated the style.css file for the child them to use the new style.css from the new main site theme folder, formerly the main cardinal folder and it seemed to work ok. I guess my question would be if this is not the best way forward and if it is just better as you mentioned to rename the child folder?

My concern as above it to prevent any competitors from seeing what framework I am developing on and two, to have the theme name customized to my clients site name so they are not thinking I just installed a theme and didn’t do all of the work that I am actually doing on top of your great core platform.

I look forward to hearing from you on this. Thanks

    T-

You would need to change the name of the child theme’s folder and also the template name in the css file. However you would need to leave the parent theme as it is

    Thanks Kyle!

That makes sense. In terms of renaming the child them, I assume it doesn’t need to have child in the name, just that in the style.css file for the child theme, I rename the theme to the same name I named the child folder i.e. ‘foldername’ and in the style.css file for the child them, name the theme ‘foldername’ as well, right?

    Thanks Again,

    Todd

exactly. The name of the parent folder should match with the name that is placed inside the child theme style.css

    Hi

Not sure if this will work, but what you can try is for the content of that row, switch to the visual editor and copy the shortcodes and paste in your caption in the swift slider. (make sure you don’t include the row)
