Hello,
I have had great customer service from the support team of the Neighborhood theme and the theme itself is great.
So I thought I would tell you how I have installed the demo content a number of times without much hassle and YES I had a load of stress at the beginning too. But this works.
So follow the documentation and these steps:
> Install theme
> Install/activate plugins
> Setup woocommerce image sizes
> Tools > import > wordpress — install the importer
> Run importer
> Now try to import the “neighborhood-demo-content-ALT” file
> Upload file and import
> Import Author — change to your user name in the drop down
> Check the “download and import file attachments” box
Now wait… it will likely run and you will receive either a load of “fails” or it will crash and be a white screen with an error.
DON’T PANIC!
Whatever happens, go back to your dashboard and look in the PRODUCTS section, then under attributes and you should see 4 attributes and their contents, also the categories section will be populated too.
Now go to the “Neighborhood Demo” plugin (dashboard bottom left) and run this, checking all 4 boxes.
After this is complete, go into the products section, I always have 2 products that don’t have little thumbnails, so I just trash these.
One last thing, now I go into the pages section, sort them alphabetically by clicking at the column header, and go through and delete any duplicate pages that were created.
Now you just need to go to Appearance > Menu, and select “main menu” from the drop down and add any old page and save.
Now when you go and look at your site, you will start to see something similar to the Neighborhood demo site.
You can probably figure the rest out from here.
Have fun.
Daniel
