This thing with the Woo Commerce image sizes is getting a bit out of hand! I have read all the forum posts and still don’t get how the whole thing works!

For example I have a 540X720px Single Product Image size set up in the Display settings and I upload an image 323X551px. Image appears blown up on the single product image page. Fair enought I say: It’s probably because the uploaded image width needs to be bigger than 540px right? So I change the single product image size in the Woo Commerce Product display settings to something rnidicoulously small like 200X150, save the settings, regenerate the thumbnails, go back to the single product page and image is still blown up(enlarged). What is going on? Is there some kind of CSS settings that causes all this?

And another thing. What about products that won’t comform to these set up dimensions? What if a product has a landscape or square size? How is Woo Commerce going to treat those images? Doesn’t it need another set of rules to display those images correctly?

    Hi

The size of the image on the single product page does not go off the woocommerce settings, that’s only the quality of the image. The size is set via CSS, please see: http://www.swiftideas.com/knowledgebase/resize-the-product-image-details-area/

Yes it’s better if your image sizes are the same/similar otherwise they will be cropped

Sorry didn’t get that. The size of the image on the single product page is only the quality of the image? What do you mean by that? The size in WooCommerce settings define a size not a quality.

Yes say you’re settings are 200X150 it will create a 200X150 version of your product image, but the CSS will blow it up to fill the image container. You can reduce the size of the image container using the CSS in the knowledgebase article above
