Is it possible to reset the theme editor script without affecting the design of the site?

I tried to paste some script into the theme editor that I had used on a previous website but it didn’t work. I then deleted the code that I had added and then as soon as I pressed ‘update file’ the screen went white and when I refresh it comes up with the message ‘Confirm Form Resubmission’.

I keep getting this message every time I try to update a page or publish a post for example. Basically, every time I need to submit an update or similar.

I’m more than sure I didn’t delete any code that was there previously but I can only presume that me tinkering with this has caused the problem.

    Regards
    Mike

    Hi

You’ll just need to reupload the theme, that’s the best options

Do I need to remove the existing version first or will the new upload write over it?

The last thing I need is settings and page layouts going a bit all over the place!

Thanks for getting back to me.

You can overwrite the old files if you use FTP. If you’re uploading via the wordpress dashboard you will need to delete the theme first

Just to clarify, I have the child theme activated.

Once I delete the theme and then reinstall, will I have to go through all the settings and put them in place again?

My main fear is that I will have to reset all the swift page layouts for each page and the design of the site.

Would I only have to replace some PHP files by FTP?

The theme options are stored in the Database so there is no problem with that.
You just need to upload the theme files.

In relation to the above, as it is now a couple of weeks since I was working on this site, I just get a blank page now when I try to navigate to the wordpress admin login.

I can get to the site by going to http://strategicfd.mikelynch.co.uk/ but when I go to http://strategicfd.mikelynch.co.uk/wp-admin it is just blank.

I presume I will now need to overwrite/replace the theme through FTP? I just need some small guidance so I don’t lose the entire site!

I have the child theme activated – do I need to replace Dante and its child theme through FTP?

    Regards
    Mike

You may have an error in your child theme which is breaking your site. Using FTP, rename the child theme folder, then try and load your wp admin. If that doesn’t work, it may be the parent theme, try updating the files to a fresh version
