Updated theme, when activating the chlid version the first 3 footer columns disappear (the 4th is still visible). When de-activating the child theme the 3 footer columns return.

Firebug shows the mark up is in place for the columns but they contain no content. In the admin the column widgets contain the correct content.

    Main theme displays correctly.

The child theme has not been customised, both the main theme and child are fresh uploads from files supplied via themeforest.

    Many thanks!

    Hi,

Can I activate the child theme to test this? It’s likely you will simply need to drag the widgets into the footer widget areas upon the child theme activation.

Please update the parent theme also: http://zerodotnine.co.uk/preview/artpublish/wp-admin/update-core.php.

    Thanks,
    David.

Lost content for all 4 footer columns (both admin and site) when switch to child theme.

    Hi

Has a resolution been found for this yet?

I’d like to mention that I had previously updated the core and this bug was still present which is why I rolled back to the files that were officially available to download on themeforest.

The issue appears to be with the child theme.

    Many thanks

    Jon

    Hi both,

    This is default WordPress behavior.

When you activate a child theme it is interpreted as a new theme being activated, the widgets will need to be dragged back into their respective widget areas. These will be found in the inactive widget area.

    Hi David,

I’d like to update to the newest version of Neighborhood, but right now I’m using the older version’s child theme. If I update, will I lose the changes I made? How do I transfer them to the new theme – do I have to move them manually?

    Thank you,
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah,

The changes in the child theme are not affected when you update.

However, depending on how old the child theme is and if you have added WooCommerce template files to the child theme, they may well also need updating also.

Thank you David. I’ve now clicked to update the theme, but I haven’t activated it. I’ve left the activated one as the child theme. Is this the correct way to use the newest version of Neighborhood?

    Thank you,
    Sarah

    Hey,

Sure, that essentially updated the parent theme files, which unless specifically overridden in the child theme remain active on the site as the child theme pulls in the parent theme files.

    Cheers,
    David.

    Hi,

Yes it is. The child theme should be the one that is active.
It will use the files from the parent theme except the ones you have in the child theme.

    Hope it helps.
